Stone Varaha Statue On Stand - Late 18thC
This antique statue depicts the boar headed Hindu god Varaha, the third avatar of Lord Vishnu. We estimate it at 18th century, however it could well be older. As with all stone, it can be difficult to age.
This stone statue is mounted on a modern black granite stand and Varaha is seen in his classic heroic pose with his head facing upwards to the right with celestials hovering above.
Vishnu took the form of Varaha as he dove into the Ocean to save the Goddess Earth from demons. These demons can be seen depicted at the base of the statue.
With remnants of original painting, there is also some weather damage to the statue on the chest, and hands which are all visible in our photographs.
