This beautiful Burmese Buddha is from Amarapura in Northern Burma. It dates to the 18th century and is carved from a single piece of stone, lacquered and gilded with gold leaf.
Here Buddha sits in the bhumisparsha mudra pose which symbolizes the moment Buddha achieved enlightenment under the Bodi tree and summoned Sthavara to bare witness. Buddha's face is full and with subtle angularity blending Inwa period & Shan period styles. His earlobes hang long as was princely fashion.
This Buddha has a lovely blend of old red lacquer and gold gilding giving it a truly unique finish. He has sight damage to his nose and the very top of his head.
