Gilded Bronze Burmese Buddha - 19thC
Gilded & Lacquered Bronze Mandalay Style Buddha - 19thC
It shows the Buddha seated in vajrasana, with his right hand
gesturing to the earth in the bhumisparsa mudra position.
The head originally had a band of small mirrors above the Buddha's forehead, some of which are remaining.
The gilding has worn away on the face to reveal the red lacquer covering the bronze.
The eyes are made from glass.
This is without a doubt the best Mandalay Buddha that we have seen.
