'His & Hers' Isho Dansu from Sendai Province - Late 19thC
Originating from Sendai province. These are of some of the highest quality pieces we've seen. The masterfully crafted iron work depicts a rampaging tiger on one tansu and peony flowers on the other. The frame is made from the highest quality zelkova (Japanese red elm) wood. These tansu would have been commission pieces and made for exceedingly wealthy individuals. They were used as day to day dressing tables and clothes storage.
Many Japanese antiques we find are poorly restored - We painstakingly restore each piece using traditional Japanese techniques to ensure these pieces last and are loved for many more life times to come.
