This fine Thai standing Buddha is made from teak wood and dates to the early 19th century. The figure of Buddha is made in the typical Late Ayuthaya period style with a regal appearance, his earlobes hanging long in a princely fashion. He stands atop a lotus pedestal.
Teak wood Buddhas like this were often made for donation to temples by wealthy devotees. Buddha stands elegantly with his right hand in abhaya mudra dispelling fear and anxiety.
A truly beautiful example of Buddhist art.
Condition & Provenance:
The right hand has been replaced in our workshops using traditional techniques. There is wear to the gilding conducive with age.
