Tribal Silver & Gold Bhumiya Raj Amulet - 19th Century
A Rajasthani tribal silver and gold amulet depicting the ghost king hero Bhumiya Raj. Bhumiya Raj was the tribal chief who died defending the village. Every village would have their own Bhumiya Raj and it is believed that he rides around the villages at night dispelling evil spirits. The single eyelet at the top allows for suspension via a cord or chain.
Amulets with gold & silver and incredibly uncommon - These traditional tribal silver amulets come from Rajasthan and are made by the repousse technique (hammering the design from the reverse). Although high silver content, these pieces are not always sterling silver. These amulets would have originated in temples and been worn by pilgrims.
