Teak Stick Box Coffee Table From Rajasthan - 19thC
Known as stick boxes, these boxes were passed down through the family with each generation in the Thar desert area of West Rajasthan and were used as dowry chests.
Wood is very scarce in the desert and was usually made with wood from the kair tree, with thin bush like branches. Teak was rare and it is unusual to find teak stick boxes.
The sticks are then riveted together with hand wrought iron fittings to make a very sturdy box.
