Old Chinese Elm Bench - 19thC
This bench, known as a Spring bench, was a common sight outside shops and small restaurants in China. They were used by both staff and customers to enjoy the fresh air. This one is constructed from Elm and originates from Shanxi Province. The unique cloud motif, often seen on these benches, is beautifully carved into the wood. Its distinct darker patina sets it apart from others that are often a bleached colour. Hints of old blue and green paint can still be seen on the ends, suggesting a colorful past.
Please note that the legs of all these benches are splayed.
