This Guanyin sitting above a lotus plant in what is known as the "lotus position." Guanyin is the Buddhist bodhisattva associated with compassion and equivalent to Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva. Although originally recorded as living on Mount Potalaka, Guanyin is a prominent figure throughout East Asia. Each culture has an adopted home of Guanyin with pilgrimages in China, Japan, Tibet and Nepal.
