The Chinese folding horseshoe chair (jiaoyi) is possibly the most iconic of all classical Chinese furniture. This piece is an exceptionally good reproduction Chinese horseshoe folding chair constructed in the 1980's.
This folding horseshoe chair is expertly made to make it almost indistinguishable from an original to all but an expert. Carved with dragons and other mythical beasts, this would look great in any room.
A similar example dating to the 17th century can be found on page 68 of "Chinese Furniture: A Guide to collecting antiques" by Mazurkewich (Fig. 129). Another similar example is at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts.
The most famous example of this style sold at Sotheby's auction in October 2022 in Hong Kong for $15,873,941 (US $).
