Chinese Side Table From Jiangsu Province - 19thC
These side tables are made from red elm (zelkova) which is known in China as 'jumu' or 'southern elm.' Red elm as the name suggests has a more red tone and has a more aesthetically pleasant grain. It was considered in China to be superior to its northern elm relative. Red elm is the typical wood used in pieces from Jiangsu province.
These two have a beautiful patina and have been painstakingly restored in our Wiltshire workshop. Priced Individually.
