This reproduction Chinese blue & white porcelain fish bowl is hand painted and made in the classic Ming style. It is perfect for a garden planter. The fish is a longstanding symbol of wealth in China as the Chinese symbol for fish 'yu' can also be translated to 'abundance'. In ancient China, a fish in water symbolised marital harmony.
These were originally used to keep fish in (usually koi carp). Today, they are far more likely to be used as planters and are made in small batches by hand. Most potters have learned their craft from the elders of their family and these skills have been handed down through the generations.
