Side Table From Shanxi - 19th Century
These Chinese elm side tables usually come in pairs and originally were used as stools in the Qing dynasty (1644-1911). These particular side tables date from the 19th century and originally came from Shanxi Province.
Originally they would have been coated in a dark lacquer, however, over time, this has mostly worn away on the tabletop to reveal a beautiful elm grain.
