Painted Teak House Shrine From Patan - Early 19th Century
This wonderfully carved Indian shrine is from Patan, Gujarat and would have been set into a wall and used to house the family's favorite deity in a Hindu or Jain household. Dating from the early 19th century, the central jali doors can be opened or closed. The traditional Mughal mihrab arch is flanked by two pillars surmounted by parrots. This house temple still has many layers of its original and earlier paint.
Today, these are often used as decorative shelves or places to display ornaments. Wall fixtures can be supplied on request.
