Painted Sideboard From Mongolia - 19th Century

Painted Sideboard From Mongolia - 19th Century

This exquisite painted Mongolian sideboard features unique artwork and a range of natural hues. The doors depict social scenes painted on cloth, and the drawers showcase floral paintings. Its original black lacquer frame now has a charmingly uneven appearance, revealing a beautiful patina on the exposed wood. The carved kickstand and doors boast a rich earthy red tone. Although it was originally designed to open from the top, it has been modified to open from the front. When opened, the interior is divided into three sections, each with a removable shelf.

These cabinets were used by nomadic people for storage of clothes and bedding or grain. Also used as altar cabinets for family ancestor worship. From Mongolia China.
