This Javanese chest from Indonesia dates to the 19th century. This style is often called a Madura chest as they are found on both the islands of Madura & Java. The style has a clear Straits Chinese influence. 

 

This chest has a unique hand carved, hand painted design that makes it a stand out piece in any oom. The interior consists of a large storage space with a candle box fitted to the left side, these were used to store candles in the days before electricity.
