Old Painted Indian Doors From Gujarat - 19thC
Looking for a dramatic entrance to your room or as a statement piece in your home, a retail space or film set? These antique painted doors and frame from India hark from Kutch in Gujarat and have been reclaimed from an old haveli.
The chip carving and top lintel is classic of the style of Gujarat and the door is fitted with brass handles and lock. These doors would have originally been used as the front door of a merchant's home.
In the centre of the lintel, there is carved god who would have looked after the home and its residents. It is a different colour and unpainted as it would have been protected from the harsh Indian weather by the frame of the building.
These doors are saved from buildings in India which have fallen into a state of disrepair and are no longer in a repairable state. As with most Indian doors, they would have originally operated on a pin and post system and not on hinges. The frame has been customised to allow for hanging with modern hinges. They would have originally opened inwards.
Although this is a heavy piece, Indigo Antiques have a trained delivery team to bring it into your home. We can provide assembly advice to your builders however we will need to discuss your hinge and hanging requirements before arranging delivery. Hinges may incur a small additional charge depending on your specifications.
