Painted Cabinet From Gansu - 19th Century
This old painted Chinese cabinet is from Gansu province on the border with Mongolia. Its shape is traditional of the area with a deep red and orange lacquer acting as a backdrop to now faded paintwork. Much of the original painting has faded to obscurity, but cloud motifs can still be seen on the drawers, as well as the faint remnants of a floral arrangement on the main door.
This piece has developed a wonderful rich patina over the years. Inside this cabinet is a single shelf and a double set of drawers adds additional storage space.
