Painted Sideboard From Qinghai - 19th Century
This beautifully painted sideboard is from Qinghai province in Northern China and has incredibly detailed paintings. Qinghai is well known for its high quality of painting. This sideboard has one central compartment with two central drawers. Either side of the central compartment are two larger compartments with a fitted shelf.
The doors are painted with provincial mountain scenes with flowing rivers. The inner doors, drawers, and bottom panels are adorned with floral paintings. The beautiful red lacquer has developed a wonderful patina over the years.
These cabinets were used for the storage of clothes and bedding or grain. Also used as altar cabinets for family ancestor worship.
