Doors like this are saved from buildings in India that have fallen into a state of disrepair and are no longer in a repairable state.
The chip carving and top lintel are classic of the style of Gujarat and the door is fitted with brass handles and a lock. These doors would have originally been used as the front door of a merchant's home. The style of this piece has European influences from the traders visiting the area at the time and the carving depicts Indian peacocks with Grecian vases and fruit.
