Indian lacquer pots are true works of art and this colourful lacquer box is an excellent collector's piece. These two-colour spotted pots are from the border area of Kutch and neighboring Sindh. The practice of lacquering came from Sindh many Sindhi people migrated to Kutch bringing tradition with them

Lacquering is done by the craftsman on a hand-powered lathe. The wooden pot is spun and a lac stick is pressed against the pot. As the pot spins friction softens the lac which coats the surface of the wood. Quite intricate designs can be created by the craftsman using different techniques.
