Daybed From Nagaland - Ca 1920's

Daybed From Nagaland - Ca 1920's

This rustic tribal daybed is from Nagaland and could be used in a modern home as a coffee table. It is carved from a single piece of wood from the hollock tree (terminalia myriocarpa) also known as the East Indian almond tree. The adze marks from when it was originally carved are still visible on the top.

Nagaland is a relatively inaccessible and unexplored area of India which borders Myanmar.  The people live in villages set throughout the jungle and until the introduction of Christianity in the 1960's, the people of Nagaland were headhunters, regularly going to war with other nearby villages.
