Japanese Woodblock Print 'Play: Kaeribana Yuki no Takeda' by Utagawa Kunisada

This old Japanese woodblock print is by woodblock print artist Utagawa Kunisada I (Toyokuni III, 1786-1865) and it is the central panel of a larger triptych.

 

The full triptych was originally published in 1840 (the 11th month) by Izumiya Ichibei and is entitled 'Play: Kaeribana Yuki no Takeda'. The triptych depicts actors (from left to right) Sawamura Tosshô I as Saitô Ryûkô, Iwai Shijaku I as Tsuwaka Myôbu no Kami, and, Ichikawa Ebizô V as Onikojima Yatarô. 


These old prints have been reframed by our skilled team in a simple matte black wood frame.

 

The full triptych can be found in the Museum of Fine Arts Boston. 

 

Condition:

Some small holes, creases and light tears.
