Iron Bound Teak Chest From Gujarat - 19th Century
This beautifully patinated iron-bound chest is from Gujarat and dates to the 19th century. It is constructed from teak wood. Most likely it was custom made for a wealthy family to stash away dowry, family treasures, or cash from the prying eyes of extended family members.
It has lovely lacquer beading detailing on the edge. The interior consists of a large storage space with an additional compartmental storage area inside. A sturdy iron chain prevents the lid from falling fully open.
