Iron & Jackfruit Wood Grain Measure From South India - 19thC
Practical and decorative, this grain measure is made from a solid piece of Jackfruit wood carved out by hand. The iron banding is hand forged & has tiny brass floral decorations -19thC from Kerala.
Grain measures were used in markets for measuring, rice and pulses. In the old days the Indian measures were Patti€™s & Seer€™s.
Today this would make a fantastic plant pot or wastepaper bin.
