Tribal Silver Amulet From Rajasthan - Vishnu Feet

Tribal Silver Amulet From Rajasthan - Vishnu Feet

These old Indian silver amulets depict the divine footprints of Lord Vishnu beneath an umbrella and date to the early 20th century, circa 1900. This design is also called Vishnupada (Vishnu divine footprints) and symbolises devotion, grace and the pursuit of a divine connection.

Amulets like these were found in Rajasthan and acted as protection charms. Silver was considered a noble and pure metal without impurity. These amulets are worn till this day on various parts of the body and sometimes might have been concealed in turbans, hats or clothing.

These amulets were made by hammering through a brass cast mold. Although high silver content, these pieces are not always sterling silver. These amulets can be worn with a leather necklace or a silver snake chain. This amulet dates to the 19th century.
