Tribal Indian Silver Ganesh & Parvati Amulet - 19thC
A Rajasthani tribal silver amulet depicting Ganesh & his mother Parvati. Ganesh is the Hindu elephant god of good fortune and remover of obstacles. The four eyelets at the top allow for suspension via a cord or chain. Although the amulet is old, we have fitted it with a new chain.
These traditional tribal silver amulets come from Rajasthan and are made by the repousse technique (hammering the design from the reverse). Although high silver content, these pieces are not always sterling silver. These amulets would have originated in temples and been worn by pilgrims.
This amulet has a beautiful patina and wearing conducive with its age. It is becoming increasingly difficult to find original pieces such as these.
