Indian Carved Gaja Lakshmi Panel - Mughal Style - 18th Century

Indian Carved Gaja Lakshmi Panel - Mughal Style - 18th Century

This carved Indian panel dates from the 18th century and has been made from chip carved teak in the Mughal Style. The panel depicts Gaja Lakshmi or Gajalaxmi meaning Lakshmi with elephants. She sits atop a lotus throne and symbolises both fertility and abundance. Gaja Lakshmi motifs are commonly found in both Hinduism & Buddhism. The style of carving indicates its origins to be from Hyderabad in India.

The panel comes supplied with wall hangers fitted on the reverse - it would look fabulous on a wall or above a mantle piece. As to be expected with its age, the central Lakshmi carving is missing her right hand.
