Indian Chakki Coffee Table From Rajasthan - 19thC
The iconic Indian grinder table is known colloquially as a chakki. These tables have been used in The West as round coffee tables, dog beds & seats.
Chakki tables are repurposed teak rice grinding mills from villages in Rajasthan or Gujarat. Originally used with quern stones for grinding wheat or other grains. There is normally a small door at the side for the flour to come out. The Hindi name for these hand operated mills is 'Chakki' or 'Chukki.'
This Chakki table is 19th century and beautifully chip carved around the edge. Beware of numerous inferior quality mango wood reproductions flooding the market.
