Chinese Chair with caned Seat - These chairs are known as Horseshoe Chairs
They were usually made from Elm or Walnut in North China and were made in pairs. They were usually placed each side of a square wine table.
This one is made from Elm and is from Hebei.
Both Ming and Qing furniture had a strong influence on English furniture, notably through Chippendale in the 18th century. Our pieces are mostly from the 19th century.
