This simple bleached cedar wood chest is from Himachal Pradesh in the Himalayas. It would have been used for storing grain, dried foods, and goods and dates to the 19th century. These chests are roughly hewn into planks using an adze - the front and sides are carved. 

 

The majority of these chests are from the Kullu valley in Himachal Pradesh. Because of their bijou nature, these types of chests are perfect for bathroom storage or for use as a rustic side table.
