This style of traditionally woven ikat sash can be found in many towns across the islands of East Nusa Tenggara and is most likely from Alor Island. It dates to the early 20th century.

Each area has its own distinctive motifs and patterns as well as color preferences. The difference in the designs and colors represent the variety that exists among the ethnic communities, customs, and beliefs of the people of Flores.

Dyed by hand using natural dyes, of indigo using strobailanthes cusia, and a deep rust using ceriops tagal bark. The dyes are from sustainable sources.
