Flambe Glaze Porcelain Huluping Double Gourd Vase
This reproduction Chinese double gourd shaped vase is called a huluping vase in China. It has been beautifully hand glazed using a flambe glaze applied by skilled potters with skills learnt from their family passed down through generations.
Sang de boeuf was one of a number of new flambé glazes, marked by unpredictable but highly decorative and varying effects. It was first developed in the Jingdezhen porcelain kilns during the Kangxi reign (1662-1722). Sang de boeuf refers to the colour which translates to French for 'ox blood', a colour created by oxidising iron & copper.
All our reproduction Chinese porcelain is made in Jingdezhen which has been the capital of Chinese porcelain production since 1004 AD. The famous imperial kilns have been sited there since the Ming dynasty (1368 - 1644 AD).
