Chinese Painted Wood Seated Guanyin Statue
This Guanyin sitting above a lotus plant in what is known as the "lotus position." This statue been given an aged effect and has traces of paint, but is in fact a museum quality reproduction hand made in China.
Guanyin is the Buddhist bodhisattva associated with compassion and equivalent to Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva.
Although originally recorded as living on Mount Potalaka, Guanyin is a prominent figure throughout East Asia. Each culture has an adopted home of Guanyin with pilgrimages in China, Japan, Tibet and Nepal.
