Kang Table From Tianjin - 19th Century
This antique Chinese Kang table from Tianjin is over 120 years old and has a wonderful patina. The original brass handles are typical of the Tianjin style and this one is constructed from catalpa wood. These make great tables for the end of a bed and are ideal for use beneath a T.V or sound system. Chinese Kang cabinets can also be used behind a sofa or as a coffee table.
Kang cabinets were used beside the Kang which was a raised stone platform used as a bed or lounging area in wealthy homes. Traditionally, this was heated from underneath in the winter.
