Carved Low Sideboard From Xinjiang - 19thC
This large low sideboard from Xingjiang province in far western China is a beautiful rustic piece for a dining room or for use as a TV stand. It was originally constructed as a daybed and would have been far deeper. It has been since cut down, the fixed panels converted into doors and drawers creating this incredibly unusual carved cabinet.
Xinjiang furniture has been heavily influenced by its neighboring regions of Kazakhstan, Pakistan, Kyrgyzstan & Mongolia. At one time it would have been brightly painted in vibrant colours, which although faded are still visible.
