
Carved Indian Stone Lamp Niche From Rajasthan - 18thC
This old Indian lamp niche is carved from Jaisalmer stone and dates to the 18th century. Niches like this were normally used beside doorways with oil lamps or candles. This piece is at least two hundred years old and still has prominent peacock carvings and traces of the sindoor (tika), a red powder that was pressed daily into the niche to honor the gods.
Sturdy hangers are attached to the back.
