This beautifully carved Granite Nandi bull from South India is at least 300 years old dating to the 18th century or earlier.

Carved from one piece of Granite there is considerable erosion and wear. The Nandi bull is a symbol of Lord Shiva. The Nandi is usually depicted crouching, often housed in a small pavilion at the entrance of every Shiva temple.

There is some old damage to one side of the face. A similar example can be found in the British Museum dating to the 14th century.
