Brass & Teak Tobacco Box From Rajasthan - Ca 1910

Brass & Teak Tobacco Box From Rajasthan - Ca 1910

This style of Indian pot was used for tobacco and opium. These pots were in constant use. This piece dates to 1910 and has been beautifully constructed using a single piece of teakwood which has developed a great patina with age. The exterior of this box has been decorated with brass studding.

The tradition of growing and taking opium in Rajasthan has existed for centuries and to some extent it is still used today during rituals and festivals.
