This pretty little Indian brass box is from Kerala in South India and is often referred to as a 'vettile chellam'. It would have been used for storing valuables; jewelry, paan, and money and has an internal divider.
Today this beautiful box would make a perfect jewellery or keepsake box. There is a mirror installed on the inside of the lid and an engraved name "G Francis" hints to a long and well loved life.
