Vintage Brass Chevrolet Car Paan Box - Ca 1940
An Indian nickel plated brass paan box in the shape of a 1940's Chevrolet 'Chevy' car. The top opens to store paan, a preparation, which combines a paste of spices in a betel leaf. It is chewed for its stimulant and psychoactive effects.
This particular design follows the design of the Chevrolet Special DeLuxe series Sedan model. Produced between 1941 - 1948. The boot is stamped 'Betel Motor Car, Open & Close Type - Patent No 75086.' It appears this patent number could be apocryphal as there is no such number historically registered in the records.
The top is etched with Gujarati script stating the name & address of whom this was presented, dated 24th June.
