Brass Bound Teak Military Chest From Hyderabad -19th Century

Brass Bound Teak Military Chest From Hyderabad -19th Century

These Anglo-Indian military chests were originally used by officers of the British Indian Army to carry their kit and personal possessions whilst on tour. This one is from Hyderabad. The central plate would originally have been etched with a name.
As they had to withstand a lot of punishment in transit, they were exceptionally well made. The front, sides, and top are all made from single planks of teak wood.

This particular chest retains its original storage compartments which are often lost over the years.
