
Brass Bound Teak Indian Military Chest From Gujarat -19th Century
These Anglo-Indian Military chests were originally used by officers of the British Indian Army to carry their kit and personal possessions whilst on tour. As they had to withstand a lot of punishment in transit, they were exceptionally well made.
Constructed from Teak, Rosewood or Jackfruit wood they were made to order by skilled carpenters. Depending on rank, these were re-enforced with corners of brass or iron. Our pieces are mostly from the 19thC and early 20thC
