Brass Bound Rosewood Box From Kutch - 19th Century

Brass Bound Rosewood Box From Kutch - 19th Century

This charmingly decorated jewellery box still has some of the original painted mica panels. The naive style depicts a range of characters and floral designs on natural earthen coloured fields

It is missing a few decorations on the lid, but it€™s amazing that such delicate work has survived over the years

A very rare piece that would delight a collector of Indian antiques, it comes from The Rann of Kutch and dates from the 19th century.

Chests and boxes from India are found in an extraordinary variety of styles reflecting the many cultures that influenced India and were used for storing valuables such as jewellery or cash.
