Blue & White Porcelain Meiping Vase - Fish Design

This fabulous Blue & White Porcelain Meiping vase is hand made on the potters wheel in the traditional way. It was hand painted before firing. The name "Meiping" means literally "Plum Vase" and is a style originating in the Song dynasty (960 - 1279) for use as a wine vessel. Usually they'd depict plum blossoms, but in this case, a fish design has been used. Porcelain is steeped in centuries of Chinese culture and history. Even though pottery developed in China 15,000 years ago, most experts believe that true porcelain -which also originated in China - didn't emerge in the region until the Han Dynasty -202 BC to 220 AD. Blue and white porcelain is glazed using a transparent porcelain glaze dating back to the Tang Dynasty - 618 - 907.
