Blue Painted Sunburst Door & Frame - 19th Century
This 19th century Indian antique door and frame from The Rann of Kutch is a stunning example of traditional craftsmanship. Expertly carved and produced from teak wood, it features dramatic sunburst panels and a vivid blue paint finish. It's decorated with intricate floral and peacock carvings, accentuated by ornate corbels, and is truly a magnificent work of art.
The sunburst panels on the doors indicate a strong Portuguese influence. As with most Indian doors, they would have originally operated on a pin and post system and not on hinges. The frame can be customised to allow for hanging with modern hinges. They would have originally opened inwards.
Doors such as this one are saved from buildings in India that have fallen into a state of disrepair and are no longer in a repairable state.
We can provide assembly advice to your builders however we will need to discuss your hinge and hanging requirements before arranging delivery. Hinges may incur a small additional charge depending on your specifications.
