Ganesh Lintel From Bengal - 18th Century
This exquisite antique Indian panel would originally come from an old haveli and is stylistically from Bengal in East India. Over the years, many of these beautiful mansions have fallen into disrepair without secured government heritage status.
This particular panel is made from teak wood and dates to the 18th century. Ganesh, the elephant headed Hindu god can be seen accompanied by his mouse vahana (vehicle) flanked by two female attendants. The piece has been painted with ochre, resulting in a stunning rust red color. This unique item would make a striking addition to any wall, especially when paired with accent lighting or displayed above a fireplace.
He is the God of good luck and auspiciousness. He is also worshipped as the God of wisdom, wealth, health, celibacy, fertility and happiness. The son of Shiva and Parvati, Ganesh has an elephantine countenance with a curved trunk and big ears and a huge pot-bellied body of a human being. Ganesh is also worshipped as the god of education, knowledge, success and the fine arts. He is one of the five prime Hindu deities.
Supplied with hangers. Note this panel has a slight bowl outwards but is still possible to be hung on a wall.
