This serene Shakyamuni Buddha head is Burmese and sculpted from solid stone & lacquered with a dark reddish brown lacquer. Mounted on a simple black lacquered stand, this Buddha head dates to the 17th or early 18th century and crafted in the earlier Ava style. 

He has benevolent downward looking eyes and delicate smile. His smooth hair is topped by a long ushnisha (उष्णीष), symbolising wisdom & enlightenment.
