This antique Mongolian cabinet would have been used for religious practices. The central hole would originally have been filled by a sliding door. Historically, Mongolian culture had many similarities with Tibetan culture. This sliding door mechanism can be seen on Tibetan pegam chests.
This piece has beautiful original painting and is constructed from pine wood. It dates to the 19th century and the drawers and doors are a later conversion. The beautiful traditional floral paintwork is painted in rich earthy colours. The top has been left bare and is complimented with a beautifully patinated finish.
