This beautifully patinated Indian iron-bound chest is from Gujarat and dates to the 19th century. It is constructed from teak wood, has wonderful yellow lacquer beading around the lid as well as four wheels for ease of movement. Most likely it was custom made for a wealthy family to stash away dowry, family treasures, or cash from the prying eyes of extended family members. It is constructed from beautifully patinated teak and has its original iron fittings and handles. The interior consists of one large space and a fitted candle box finished with red cochineal.
